Second part of offshore race leads to changes

Copa Del Rey - Second part of offshore race leads to changes
PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(4-8-2005) Lexus Quantum speeds up remaining leader in TP 52 class. CAM increases its advantage in IMS 500 class. Movistar first in IMS 600. Quum Sevilla, tops the IMS 670 class general classification.

The favourite boats are profiled in the different categories due to the results of yesterday’s offshore race of the Copa del Rey – Agua Brava. The offshore race consisted of two parts named 3rd regatta and 4th regatta at punctuation and classifications level.

In the first part of the race, the winds of 16 knots facilitated the sailing of the fleet whereas, in the second part, the logical descend of the wind and the direction change provoked some surprises.

In TP 52 class, Lexus Quantum of Russell Coutts showed its supremacy, dominating the two parts of the regatta, and it seems that for the time being, it is going to break down its rivals. With these results, Lexus is leader of the class, followed by Caixa Galicia by one point of difference, and Cristabella by four points. Caixa Galicia is the most regular rival, whereas Cristabella is one of the fastest boats under all conditions. Movistar looses positions with yesterday’s regatta results and Atalanti remains among the favourites.

In IMS 500 class, CAM was favoured by the offshore race: in the first part, Matador surprised it, but in the second part, CAM went directly to the victory. On the other hand, one of the candidates to the victory, TAU, practically discarded from the final triumph after a second part with poor results, leaving Azur de Puig second of the general classification with 7 points, and third Matador with 8 points.

In IMS 600 class, Movistar became first with a comfortable advantage of 4.5 points before Forum Filatélico in second place; and 6.5 points before the third, Andalucía Te Quiere. The day’s surprise was the victory of Bombardier Husa Hotels during the second part of the offshore race.

In IMS 670 class, the second part also presented novelties as Don Álvaro won the race, followed in second position by Card & Oil and third, Velux.

During the first part, the favourite ones could not win as they were marking each other forgetting the rest of the fleet. Due to this, Quum Sevilla arrived fourth, Clinica Arroyo fifth, and Mutua Madrileña - Diversidad sixth. The general classification have not major changes: Quum Sevilla has three advantage points before Clinica Arroyo, and 8.5 points before Mutua Madrileña.

Today, the Copa del Rey – Agua Brava is in its the rest day, awaiting the last tests next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
